St. Andrew Lutheran Church  –  Memphis, Michigan

“Sharing Christ – Caring in Life”

St. Andrew, the Disciple of our Lord, was a disciple who was interested in Sharing Christ (with his brother, Peter - John 1:41).  He cared enough to be concerned with the Greeks who came to see Jesus - (John 12:22) and took them to Him.  He was also caring in life toward the hungry and poor and brought the boy with five loaves and two fish to Jesus (John 6:8).

 Core Value Statements

Sacraments

We value the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Christ has already won forgiveness of sins, eternal life and salvation for us on the cross and gives all of this to us by grace through faith in Him.  He has given us these sacraments as a way or means of sharing His grace with one another.  Matthew 26:26-27; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16

Teaching and Preaching that is Bible Centered

We value teaching and preaching that is centered on all of the God’s Word, which is meant for the Spiritual strengthening of individuals and the whole church family.  Through the Word we have life in His name and walk in the light of His love.  John 20:31; Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

.

Saints are those who are loved by God and have been called to be His disciples.  They believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and all that He has done for them on the cross and in the empty tomb. Through the Sacraments and the Word of God we have all the assurance we need for life and salvation.  Period.  Ephesians 2:8-9

Always in Prayer

We value the gift of regular and continuous prayer which God has given us so that we might thank our Lord for His blessings and communicate our desires and wishes as well as those desires and wishes of others to our Lord.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; Psalm 50:15; Matthew 7:7-8; 1 John 5:14

Nurturing One Another

Christian Love for one another in and outside of the church is another of our values.  Christ says: “Love one another as I have loved you.”  All of God’s children are important to our ministry.  We value our fellowship our friendships, and our families, young and old and see our ministry centered in building up and nurturing these in the love of our Lord.  Deuteronomy 4:9-10; Luke 10:27; John 15:12-13; Ephesians 4:2-6.

Dynamic Youth Ministry

We value our children and our youth.  We know we are called by God to equip them with a love of God based upon a strong and faith based knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, so that they are prepared for their life lived with Christ.  We value setting godly examples at home, work, at play and at church.  Proverbs 22:6; Colossians 2:6-7; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Matthew 19:13-14

Reverent Leadership

We value godly leaders, both the called pastoral as well as lay leaders, who will equip, encourage, and empower all the saints for the work of ministry. The leaders in God’s church especially will show themselves to be patterns of good works and Christian devotion.  We believe that when God wants to accomplish something He uses leaders to guide and lead His people.   1 Timothy 3:2-3; Matthew 18:4; Nehemiah 1-2; Romans 12:8

Evangelism

We value what Jesus Christ did for all people on the cross and in the empty tomb.  It is our desire therefore to share Jesus within our community and to support the world-wide ministry of the Gospel.  Our doors are always open to all.  We will actively seek out those who are hungry for spiritual nourishment and God’s blessings.  Through our evangelism efforts we expect our growth to be continuous, either in membership numbers or in the level of faith within our membership, or both.  John 3:16; Romans 10:9; Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.

Worship that is Exciting and Meaningful

We value the greatness and grace of our loving Triune God.  In response to Him we worship Him for all He has done for us.  We use traditional worship liturgies as well as blending in creative and innovative ways of presenting God’s Word to God’s people so that they come to know and believe God’s promises.  Jeremiah 7:2; Acts 2:42; Psalm 95:2; Ephesians 5:19; Matthew 26:26-27; Psalm 27:6
